About Us

Theresa and Mike knew absolutely nothing of each other, Theresa lived the good life in Texas while Mike relaxed on the sunny shores of Southern California. By a strange twist of fate, they found each other and the rest, as they say, is history!

Their courtship began innocently enough and they spent the first two years they spent apart from each other, subsisting on quarterly visits and long phone conversations (Thank You Vonage!). After two years of living apart, Mike packed up all of his belongings and moved down to Texas to be with Theresa. Not content to live as heathens, Mike proposed two years later on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

The Engagement: Her Story

So, Mike and I were in Virginia for one of the wedding of one my oldest friends. We spent most of the weekend doing different stuff since I was in the wedding and he was pretty much left to his own devices. The wedding was beautiful, and we had a blast at the reception. We decided that we were going to spend the last day in Virginia doing the ‘tourist’ thing.

Armed with my sister’s trusty TomTom, we ventured forth and did a whirlwind tour of a few of the Smithsonian Institute museums that we wanted to see and as the day wore on Mike insisted that we have to go see the Lincoln Memorial.

When we arrived at the memorial it was absolutely breathtaking and we took our time wandering around and loitering with the rest of the tourists. When it was time to go we walked down to the reflecting puddle (the pool had been drained for the winter) and as we reached the bottom of the steps Mike stopped me and said, “Well remember how I said I was saving up for something big so I didn’t give you a birthday present?” I thought for a moment and remembered thinking he was saving up so we can finally get a PS3! Then, he got down on one knee and proposed. I didn’t get that PS3 but I did snag myself a husband so I think overall we can call this one a win :D

The Engagement: His Story

Looking back on the weekend that I proposed, was one of the most nerve wracking experiences of my life. All I could think of all weekend was the movie “Meet the Parents” where Ben Stiller’s character was proposing to his girlfriend and the airline made him check his carry-on bag and lost it, with the engagement ring inside - And for that reason that ring never left my pocket or out of my sight for more than 2 minutes at a time. This created problems of its own at times; she came so close to finding it so many times I couldn’t keep count.

I knew I wanted to propose while we were in D.C. for her friend’s wedding but I had no idea how or when, but I was prepared because I always had it with me! I don’t know how or why I chose to propose at the Lincoln Memorial, it just felt right, and that’s about the only way I could describe it, but I will always remember the look on her face when I got down on my knee and asked her to marry me. I will always remember that night. (But we did get that PS3 a few months later)
